THQ have announced a massive company refocus in which 3 development studios are to close and 200 staff are to lose their jobs. Two major series in THQ’s line-up will now be discontinued as they move away from child friendly games and movie licences.

The Red Faction series has been shelved due to poor sales of recent titles and THQ have let go of the MX Vs ATV licence.

“With this realignment, we are narrowing our focus to high-quality owned IP with broad appeal that can be leveraged across multiple platforms, and to work with the best talent in the industry,” said Brian Farrell, CEO.

As the focus shifts from quality not just quantity, this leaves THQ with 5 studios all working on projects such as Saint’s Row The Third and the WWE franchise as well as completely new and unannounced games.
