Yakuza Spin-off Sequel ‘Lost Judgment’ Coming To Consoles In September

Sega and Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced that Lost Judgment a sequel to 2018’s Judgment will be releasing Worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 & Xbox One in September. Lost Judgment will be the first game in the entire Yakuza series that has a simultaneous release. The game will continue detective Takayuki Yagami’s story as he investigates and brawls against crime.

Lost Judgment sees detective Takayuki Yagami and his partner, Masaharu Kaito, and ex-yakuza investigating a seemingly perfect crime whose lead suspect has an airtight alibi. It might start off as a simple revenge story but as the game unfolds, a conspiracy involving several factions taking advantage of a broken law system emerges. As Yagami unravels the truth, he must choose between defending the law or exacting justice.

Yagami isn’t just one of Japan’s best detectives. He has a mastery of martial arts which allows him to stylishly batter any group that decides to ambush him. Since the last game he’s learned a new skill along side the Crane & Tiger styles. Snake style, can deflect and return an opponent’s strikes, using their energy against them. Couple this with the various gadgets Yagami has at his disposal, it’s safe to say that combat will be fun and as free flowing as it’s always been.

Sega also confirmed separately that for future mainline Yakuza games, the battles will remain turn based much like Like A Dragon, so if you’re looking for the classic brawler system, Lost Judgment will be the game for you.

RGG Studio always work hard at their environments. The bustling downtown of Tokyo has been expertly refined over the years and Lost Judgment also has us exploring Yokohama for the first time. Exploring each city during certain times of the day will give you different missions, clues and other avenues to get to the truth.

As is tradition with the series, it’s not all serious investigating and no fun. An optional part of the story involves going undercover at a high school. Being thrown into the daily lives of teenagers will give a comedic break to the proceedings. Here you’ll be able to partake in dance classes for a rhythm game break. You could also take boxing classes if you wish and if you find a half pipe in Yokohama, you’ll also be able to unwind with a little skateboarding. If previous games in the series are anything to go by, we wouldn’t be surprised if Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have built a fully fledged Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater inside the full game.

Judgment was a well made spin-off and breath of fresh air, so we’re definitely up for more of Yagami’s unique style of investigation.
