Remember in the 1990s when your mum was saying that all of these monster battling video games were just a ‘fad’? Well mother, looks like you were wrong as the genre is still going strong today. Nexomon is the latest game where you catch cute critters and pit them against others in order to bring peace in the world, and it’s coming to consoles in September.

Nexomon originally released for mobile devices in 2017 and is a prequel to Nexomon Extinction which released across all consoles last year. This is a top down-2D RPG where the aim of the game is to collect, train and battle around 300 Nexomon to save the world. As you level and train your monsters, they will grow into bigger, stronger creatures with a more serious look about them. We know this all sounds familiar compared to that more established franchise that seems to have completed world domination, but we’d say there’s enough differences to give Nexomon a fair shake down.

Looking at the trailer and screenshots we can’t help but smile at the sarcastic NPCs and the simple battle set up. The visuals look super crisp and the animations for the battle attacks look impactful. It’s nice to see indie developers Lime Turtle Inc bringing back a tried and tested formula that seems to have been left in the past and for a small team, the visuals look absolutely delightful and with 10 worlds to explore and catch monsters, it is shaping up to be a game that will give a lot of play time for ‘just another Pokémon clone’.

Nexomon will certainly be one to look out for when it launches across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S & PS4, Xbox One consoles on 17th September.
