Opening Sony’s hefty PS5 Showcase, developers Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games have finally given us a glimpse at their up and coming project; Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake. We’ve been given a short teaser trailer and some nuggets of information including what to expect from the game and where you can play it.

Originally developed by Bioware and released in 2003 for the original Xbox and PC, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic quickly became a must own RPG for the system and is widely considered one of the best Star Wars games produced.

Set around 4000 years before the Star Wars movies, players take the role of a Jedi who have to take on Darth Malak, a Dark Sith Lord that has sent a Sith armada against the Galactic Republic. KOTOR gave players the choose to choose from three character classes and customise their characters, as well as making important plot decisions through character interactions and choosing the path of either the Dark or Light Sides. The game certainly laid the ground work for Bioware’s next Space epic – Mass Effect as well as influencing future RPGs.

The remake will be built from the ground up and Jennifer Hale who played Basila Shan in the original game will be reprising role. There’s been no other word on casting, but hope that more of the original cast is brought onboard.

Development of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is being led by a newly created team composed of industry veterans at developer and publisher Aspyr, and they’ll be working closely with Lucasfilm Games. Orion Kellogg, executive producer at Lucasfilm Games, and Ryan Treadwell, lead producer at Aspyr have issued a lengthy blog post stating that the joint venture might be a lengthy process but they want to get the balance of providing a quality game that new and returning players can find enjoyment out of.

There are no prizes for guessing that because Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake opened Sony’s Showcase it’ll be appearing on the PlayStation 5, however Aspyr have confirmed that the game will also release on PC. Sony are publishing the game on their console while Aspyr are handling the PC version.

This comes as a bit of a surprise as the original games were exclusive to the Xbox when they first released in 2003. We suspect that this is only a timed-exclusive but time will tell.

Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake hasn’t been given a release date, or even a release window so we shouldn’t expect to see the RPG any time soon, but just knowing that production has been started, we’re excited to see what the future holds.
