Rare’s Sublime GoldenEye 007 Releases For Switch And Xbox Today
One of the N64’s best games, GoldenEye 007 is coming to the N64 emulator found on the Nintendo Switch as part of the NSO: Expansion Pack today. Rare’s first person shooter will also make an appearance on Xbox thanks to Game Pass and Rare Replay, but there are a few differences between the two that you should know about.
GoldenEye 007, is based on the film with the same name and sees James Bond on a mission to stop the GoldenEye weapon satellite spans the globe. Along the way, M will brief you on your objectives and Q Branch will support your efforts with an array of gadgets as you trot around the world trying to save it.
As mentioned, GoldenEye 007 will be releasing for those who subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass and Xbox Game Pass players. Both versions will feature widescreen support and 4 player local multiplayer but that’s where the similarities end.
The Xbox version will be available on Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X|S and upscale the visuals to 4K (system dependant) as well as including the usual achievements. While the game is available through Game Pass, if you own a copy of Rare’s 30 anniversary compilation – Rare Replay, you’ll be able to download the game without the need for a subscription.
As a trade off, the Nintendo Switch version will feature online multiplayer for up to four players, which in our opinion supersedes the achievements/resolution upscaling… so long as the servers remain stable of course.
You can jump into GoldenEye 007 right now on Switch and Xbox via the relevant subscription services and if you haven’t played it, now is the time to set that straight.
