Impact Gameworks confirms that the upcoming Flowerstone Saga has suffered a slight delay ahead of its original release date. The SNES-inspired JRPG was due to release on Steam today (17 September) but has suffered a last-minute delay due to an issue with Steam’s full controller support label.

This small hiccup now means that Flowerstone Saga will now be released on 26 September. Impact Gameworks has advised the game has passed Valve’s checks and will be 100% controller-only compatible and will include full Steam Deck compatibility from the start. The developers are also taking the extra week to give Flowerstone Saga a final once-over to make sure the title has that extra layer of polish.

Flowerstone Saga stars Mirai, a young heroine who has discovered new-found powers and is looking to make an impact on the world of Ocean’s End. These new powers allow Mirai to repair and rebuild her home which terrible forces have decimated. As players gradually reconstruct the city of New Riverstone, Mirai can interact with the populous to discover new treasures and hints of her mysterious past.

The 16-bit RPG incorporates turn-based battles, but rather than pressing A to attack, players have to complete a Tetris-like puzzle to inflict damage on enemies. This unique take on the genre isn’t limited to battles as some puzzles will require the use of aligning blocks in particular ways in order to progress.

Founded in 2016 by game composer and industry veteran Andrew Aversa, Impact Gameworks‘ goal is to create experiences full of rich tactical gameplay and lush visuals inspired by the 16-bit console era and Flowerstone Saga looks to do exactly that. The studio’s debut title was Tangledeep, a traditional roguelike dungeon crawler that has racked up an impressive 200,000 sales across all platforms since its release in 2017.

Flowerstone Saga will be available from 26 September on PC (Steam).
