The long rumoured addition of Nintendo GameCube games to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription has been confirmed by Nintendo. Those who have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass option will be able to play games from Nintendo’s 2001 console on the Switch 2 when it releases in June.

Much like the N64 and Game Boy Advance games, the Nintendo GameCube Nintendo Classics app will form part of the Expansion Pass subscription tier. This will be exclusive to Switch 2 players from 5th June. Those who own any of the original Switch models will not be able to access the app.

The confirmed launch line up will be

  • The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
  • Soul Calibur 2
  • F-Zero GX

Nintendo confirms that the multiplayer for F-Zero GX can either be locally or online, both supporting up to 4 players.

Alongside the new application will be a wireless purple GameCube controller exclusive to the MyNintendo store. Like the previously released SNES and N64 controllers, it’ll come with a rechargeable battery, USB-C cable and the Share button. As this is for the Switch 2, the controller comes with the new C button so players can bring up the GameChat feature.

With Nintendo promising more titles coming down the line. During the Nintendo Direct, we clocked Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokemon XD: Gales of Darkness and Fire Emblem Path of Radiance among the games coming soon. The latter two games should excite GameCube fans as they have been notoriously difficult to find in recent years, without having to pay an arm and a leg for.
