Sony have released firmware 4.0.0 for PlayStation 3 owners around the world today. The new features are mainly based around how the console will talk to the PlayStation Vita. It will allow content such as photos, music and videos to be shared between the handheld and console and be able to backup save data from the Vita to the PS3.

Also for PlayStation Plus users, the option to toggle each of the following options has been included:

  • Game patches
  • System software
  • Recommended games and videos
  • Sync trophy information

Each one can now be chosen to automatically update or not. Finally, Sony have updated the PlayStation Network privacy settings, again to include the Vita. As usual, if you don’t want to update the console, you will have no access to the online facilities.
