Alan Wake Remastered has been announced by Remedy Entertainment today. Not only this but the game is nearing completion and will be released this year. The original game was originally an Xbox 360 console exclusive, but the Remastered version will appear across Xbox, PC & PlayStation consoles. It’ll be published by Epic Games.

The original Alan Wake launched way back in 2010 after a rocky production period. The game is set out episodically (all within the games’ disc) as an action thriller where horror writer Wake, has to investigate the disappearance of his wife, the reasons for his blacking out and why shadowy forces are afraid of his flashlight. It’s a bonkers game to describe but makes more sense when playing.

Alan Wake Remastered will be a faithful remaster to the original game, where the only changes being made are to the visuals including the character models and the cinematics. There will be some tweaks to the gameplay to account for next gen features but we’re suspecting that the team will want this to be as close to the original as possible.

Speaking on the Alan Wake website, Creative Director Sam Lake had this to say:

This story and character were personal in many ways. Alan Wake, being a writer himself, gave me an opportunity to use what I do and love as a writer as an element in the story. Alan Wake also contained the mystery of forests and lakes, which are precious to me as a Finn. And, instead of a focused one-note horror fare, it was this strange, even wasteful mix of horror, humo[u]r and supernatural mystery. I also love it because it turned out to be a very hard game to make, with many struggles along the way, and that makes me even prouder of what we achieved.

To see a multiplatform release of Alan Wake Remastered is good news indeed. Fans of the original will be able to enjoy the tweaks and polishing but with a wider audience, it looks like the future is bright for a potential sequel.

Alan Wake Remastered will be available on PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, & Xbox One in the next few months.
