It might have been a long, long wait for Bayonetta 3 but Platinum Games have opened the floodgates with the next game in the Umbra Witch’s story coming in the form of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. This will tell the tale of a young Bayonetta as she ventures into the world as a budding witch.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a storybook-inspired spin-off that will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on 17th March. With a cute art style that’s very reminiscent of Okami we can already tell that Cereza and the Lost Demon will be a far cry from the beat-em-up setting of the main game but still promises an in-depth story.

In Cereza and the Lost Demon, Bayonetta sets off through the Avalon forest in search of her mother who has gone missing under mysterious circumstances. To help her on the arduous quest is Cheshire, the young witch’s first demon who has possessed one of her cuddly toys.

Players will be able to control both characters as they move through the forest solving puzzles and chomping enemies. The Left Joy-Con allows Cereza to move and bind enemies with her magic. With the Right Joy-Con controller, move Cheshire to attack anything that is in their way.

The brief trailer certainly whets our appetite and even though it’s not quite Bayonetta 4 it is further proof that Nintendo and Platinum Games remain dedicated to the franchise, even if there was an eight-year gap between the last games. The game is set to release digitally and can be pre-ordered on the eShop now. A limited run of physical copies is currently available for preorder.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon launches on 17 March for Nintendo Switch.
