An announcement from Blaze Entertainment and Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that the cult 90s hit games Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver are being rereleased for the Evercade system. Both titles have been packed into one cart and can be played across the whole Evercade range.

The Legacy of Kain Collection is the next release for Evercade and is set to release in September for a price of £22.49 / €24.99/ $24.99. The collection features both the console versions of each game in their full, bloody, glory. As always with the Evercade line up, players will be able to use the game across the entire range, including the recently announced Evercade EXP-R handheld.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain was first released in 1996 and stars Kain, a slain nobleman who has been newly resurrected as a vampire. Players take Kain through the world of Nosgoth as he seekings revenge against his murderers. On his quest to become human, he’s tasked with slaughtering the Circle of Nine, a corrupt oligarchy of sorcerers, but slowly begins to forsake humanity and embrace his new vampiric life.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver followed in 1999 and initially started development as a standalone tie-in. Here players enter the realm of Nosgoth some 1500 years after the events of the first game where gamers play as Raziel, a soul collector who’s on a mission of revenge against his former master, Kain. While Blood Omen was somewhat of a cult success, Soul Reaver was more widely received, in part due to its shift from 2D RPG to a 3D action-adventure title.

The news comes as part of Blaze Entertainment’s growing relationship with Crystal Dynamics, who also recently announced the Tomb Raider Collection will also be heading to their retro-inspired consoles. This does fuel speculation that Crystal Dynamics is hard at work on reviving the long dormant vampire series. Shortly after the developers were acquired by Embracer Group in 2022, rumours started flying that we could see the return of Kain and Raziel, who haven’t been seen since 2003’s Legacy of Kain: Defiance.

For now, expectations of what could happen in the future should be kept in check, but for some fans, just seeing Legacy of Kain news in any capacity is a tantalising prospect.

The Legacy of Kain Collection will be released on Evercade systems in September. Preorders go live on the Evercade website on 30th August.
