Chessarama is a new game from Minimol Games that takes chess-based gameplay and combines it with video game puzzle solving. The game takes the chess mechanics and applies them to eight different scenarios such as football, gardening and feudal Japan. A new trailer explaining how this all works has been released by the developers ahead of the game’s release later in the year.

The latest trailer for Chessarama is a developer walkthrough that sees game designer Luis Júnior & UX designer Ana Carolina provide an overview of Chessarama’s Lady Ronin game. This feudal Japan-set variation of chess tasks players with guiding Lady Ronin to assassinate the enemy Shogun. Moving like a Queen Lady R has to defeat all opposing units before they get to her.

Along with the heavy focus on the Lady Ronin mode, players also get a look at other modes within Chessarama. Farm Life showcases a Knight cultivating tiles of their beloved garden to grow crops, whereas Dragon Slayer guides a pawn to the end of the board where it faces down a huge dragon. It’s not all minigames, as an original chess mode will also be included for those looking to take the time and practice their skills.

The game looks like a fun time and mixes up the established formula of chess nicely. From the looks of things, there will be plenty of modes for players to get their teeth into when Chessarama launches later in the year.

Chessarama is due out for PC and Xbox platforms in 2023.
