Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remake Completes The Mobile Remasters This February
Square Enix have announced the sixth and final entry into the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series will release on iOS, Android and Steam on the 23rd February. If you’ve already purchased the bundle featuring all six original titles, then this will unlock on the same day.
Final Fantasy VI originally released back in 1994 for the SNES, before seeing various re-releases across the original PlayStation, Game Boy Advance and mobile versions in 2014. It serves as the last game 2D game in the mainline series before the franchise took on the third dimension and is widely debated as one of the best entries into the series.
The game is set a thousand years after The War of the Magi, in which magic vanished from the world leaving a void of misery. Humanity has rebuilt the world relying on machines and technology – until Terra, a young girl with mysterious powers emerges. The evil Empire has kept her enslaved in an effort to harness these powers as a weapon, leading to a fateful meeting between Terra and a young man named Locke. Their escape sets in motion a sprawling RPG that crosses the entire world.
The Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster builds on the original and adds:
- Updated 2D pixel graphics, based on the original character designs created by Kazuko Shibuya, the original artist who acts as a current collaborator.
- A rearranged soundtrack again overseen by the original composer Nobuo Uematsu.
- Improved gameplay, including modernized UI and auto-battle options
- Supplemental extras like the bestiary, illustration gallery and music player.
Pre-purchasing Final Fantasy VI on Steam, will give early purchase bonuses; four wallpapers, five music tracks, and a 20% discount. These wallpapers and special tracks, which transition from the iconic original versions to the new arrangements, and an instrumental music track are also available through the Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster bundle on Steam.
Final Fantasy VI will be available on 23rd February across iOS, Android and Steam. There’s no word on a console version just yet, but that can change… Can’t it?
