Gamescom’s Opening Night Live saw a huge number of announcements but for us, Sonic will always have top billing. Sega have revealed a new trailer for their latest 3D entry into the Sonic series, which teases what players can expect from the game’s story when it releases later in the year.

Before we get into the trailer, Sega confirmed that Sonic Frontiers is heading to Switch, PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC on 8th November. The game, which has a large open-world hub area sees Sonic arrive into a mysterious world and finds Amy Rose trapped by a strange floating enemy with a voice like a possessed child from a Japanese horror film.

There was a smattering of new footage in the trailer too. The usual boost gameplay seen throughout the 3D series is present but also the return of 2D elements and coupled with the new look of Sonic, the package is shaping up to be quite the game.

Some fans, including our own reviews/social guy, Drew has pointed out that the inclusion of the little rock guy Koco, and the coloured arm of Sonic, that this could be Sega‘s answer to Breath of the Wild. We have been burnt before with Sonic games – and yes, we’re looking at you Sonic Forces – so we’ll reserve judgement until we get our hands on the game in November, but from this new video things are looking quite promising indeed.

Sonic Frontiers will release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC on 8th November.
