Hideki Kamiya Set To Leave Platinum Games In October
Hideki Kamiya, one of the founders of Platinum Games and the creator of the Bayonetta and Astral Chain franchises is set to leave the company in October.
The news was posted a cross the official Platinum Games social channels and the game director’s leaving date is 12 October. No detailed reason was given, although Kamiya said on Twitter that the decision came after a lot of consideration and is based on his own beliefs.
Hideki Kamiya’s career has seen him work on the Resident Evil franchise and is most famous for taking an early concept of Resident Evil 4 and spinning it into what became the first Devil May Cry game. Kamiya left Capcom in the early 2000s to start up Platinum Games, where he is responsible for hits like Bayonetta, Metal Gear Revengence and The Wonderful 101.
The full statement reads:
We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023.
We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership, and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day.
We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavors as a game creator. We are looking forward to seeing the game industry grow into a better place with him in it. We wish him all the best for the future! – PlatinumGames Inc.
Recently, Kamiya has been working on a brand new game at Platinum, tentatively titled Project G.G. Since being announced in 2020, nothing of note has come from the developers, but that is likely due to the focus on the long awaited Bayonetta 3.
Along with his work as a producer, Kamiya also serves as Vice President at Platinum. No successor has been confirmed and likely won’t be until he leaves the company next month. It is understood that he will continue in the games industry in some capacity.
