Trey Parker and Matt Stone were on hand at the Microsoft press conference to formally announce South Park: The Stick of Truth. The title created with a collaboration between Stone, Parker and THQ. The game begins with a new kid in town facing the ultimate challenge of making friends. Starting the quest the children of South Park are embroiled in a city-wide, live-action-role-playing game, casting imaginary spells and swinging fake swords. Over time the simple children’s game escalates into a battle of good and evil that threatens to consume the world.

As the new kid, you must arm with weapons of legend to defeat crabpeople, underpants gnomes, hippies and other forces of evil. Discovering the lost Stick of Truth will earn your place at the side of Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny as their new friend. Succeed, and you shall be South Park’s savior, cementing your social status in South Park Elementary. Fail, and you will forever be known as a loser.

If that wasn’t enough for you THQ have announced that the first peice of DLC for the game, the Cult of Cthulhu will have a head start on the PlayStation 3 version. There will be 3 DLC sets, all of which will be standalone missions from the main game. Kinect will also be used for the 360 version to hurl insults at the characters, with them responding to your retorts!

South Park The Stick of Truth is due on Xbox 360, PlayStaion 3 and PCs towards the end of the year.
