Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns DLC Announced

Warner Bros and NetherRealm Studios have announced that Mortal Kombat 1 will get a story DLC update in the form of Khaos Reigns. The content update will be available across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch later in the year, bringing with it a new story mode that follows the events of the game, along with six additional characters.

Scheduled to release on 24 September across all platforms, MK1: Khaos Reigns follows the conclusion of the events in last year’s brutal fighter. Titan Havik will be the main antagonist for the cinematic experience, with the inter-dimensional traveler’s sole mission to throw the realms into khaos (with a K of course) and threaten Lui Kang’s New Era. Joining Havik for the ride will be three returning characters; Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor, each will have a part in the DLC’s overarching story.

It wouldn’t be Mortal Kombat without a few guest appearances, and Khaos Reigns is no different. Available as post-release content that will be drip-fed over a few months will be Ghostface from the Scream franchise, the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Conan the Barbarian from the 1980s movie of the same name. Their original actors will voice both Ghostface and T-1000, Roger L Jackson and Robert Patrick respectively.

Unlike the first Kombat Pack which brought Homelander and Omni-Man to NetherRealms’s gore-fest, these characters cannot be purchased separately. The only way to unlock Ghostface, T-1000 and Conan is to buy the Khaos Reigns pack. Preorders are live on PC, PS5 and Xbox storefronts now, with the Switch version going up closer to release and the cost is currently set at £39.99/$49.99/€49.99.

If that wasn’t enough, Animalities, the fan-favourite finishing moves in Mortal Kombat 3 will be making their return as a free update. For those unaware, Animalities replace the normal fatalities in favour of your character turning into a creature and finishing the fight, usually in disgustingly hilarious ways. Animalities will be available when Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns releases but will be available to everyone for free.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is expected to be released on 24 September 2024 for £39.99/$49.99/€49.99 across PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S. Players who missed the Kombat Pack 1 can get a bundle containing Khaos Reigns and Pack 1 for £49.99 / $59.99 / €59.99. The base game is required to play this DLC.
