As development to Mortal Kombat 11 comes to an end and the attention turns to the future of the series, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros Games have announced that the latest entry in the near-30 year old saga has reached a staggering 12 Million copies sold. This includes both digital and physical copies sold since the game’s release in 2019.

The series creator Ed Boon is more than happy with this result:

When Mortal Kombat launched nearly 30 years ago, I never dreamed it would grow into the franchise it is today with more than 73 million games sold… We have some of the most passionate fans in the world and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years.”

The team have also confirmed that Mortal Kombat Mobile has had more than 138 million downloads and that millions of players log onto the servers daily.

All this makes for positive reading as the team are in the early stages of the next entry in the MK franchise, and wit the recent success of the third live action film, it is reassuring that the demand for one of the bloodiest and fun fighting games remains strong, even though there will be a bit of a wait on the next entry.

Mortal Kombat 11 is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4 & Xbox One and we cannot wait to see what’s next.
