Tomas Sala, the creator of the oceanic shooter The Falconeer, has been hard at work creating the follow up, Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles. The next entry into his own franchise is taking a different approach to the land of the Great Ursee, foregoing the warbird-shooting in place of a city builder mechanic. In the latest update to the game, Sala showcases a new feature – Free Build mode.

In the video, which we’ve embedded below, Sala showcases Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles‘s simplistic city creation in the new Free Build mode. This is designed to allow players to build a settlement in next to no time at all. In the short clip, Sala quickly whips up an establishment and shows players how they can unlock their own creativity when creating the next faction in the Great Ursee.

The Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles isn’t just about free building a city an calling it a day. Currently the game is in a hybrid of early access/demo state. Players who pick up the “Evolving Demo” on Steam will be able to unlock a campaign mode in which you’ll have to defend your settlement against opposing pirates and other factions.

You’ll be able to negotiate with aggressive Faction Leaders that unlock even more new building options and vehicles as well as inciting raids and combat encounters. Political counters will also have to be balanced based on which refugees you bring into your settlement in the vast open world. These will affect the balance of factions in your settlement and could cause problems if incorrectly managed.

Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles continues to evolve with Tomas Sala implementing constant changes based on players’ feedback and while there is no confirmed release for the game, gamers can pick up the Evolving Demo on Steam now.
