Publisher NIS America have been busy bunnies over the last couple of days and show no signs of stopping. Today they have released a story trailer for their next up-and-coming game Yurukill: The Calumniation and after watching the video, we’re equal parts excited and confused.

In Yurukill: The Calumniation Games, you play as protagonist Sengoku Shunju who has been accused of arson and the murders of 21 people. Shunju is forced to fight for his freedom and prove his innocence as one of six Prisoners. To make matters worse, he must pair up with one of the survivors of his supposed crime.

These victims are referred to as Executioners, and within the confines of the strange and secluded amusement park known as Yurukill Land, the five teams—Mass Murderers, Death Dealing Duo, Crafty Killers, Sly Stalkers, and Peeping Toms—must face and overcome the entertainment venue’s so-called “attractions” in order to attain what they desire.

Should the Prisoners succeed, their crimes shall be pardoned. But if the Executioners win, they will be granted revenge for their loved ones. It’s a mix of Battle Royale and Saw in this bonkers game from Homura Kawamoto known for his work Kakegurui.

From the trailer, Yurukill: The Calumniation appears to incorporate multiple genres, including puzzle solving, point and click as well as some form of Sh’mup stage. Usually when game developers try to pack all this into one game, we’d have concerns but since with game is being developed by Izanagi Games, who produced last year’s World’s End Club and with the help from renowned Shmup developers G.Rev, who are known for their work on the Darius series are handling the shooter sequences, we’re in for one heck of a ride.

Yurukill: The Calumniation is due on PlayStation 5, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch 8th July in Europe and Australia. The North Americans get it a few days earlier- 5th July.
