hero2 Nintendo have announced via their Nintendo Direct video streams the latest set of Pokémon games to come to gamers. Shifting from the Nintendo DS handheld to the 3DS for the first time isn’t the only changes we will see for this generation. Satoru Iwata has announced the new titles Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will incorporate all of the 3DS’s features.

While not explicitly telling us what these features are, we did learn that there are new pocket monsters to pick from: Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie. As usual they will be representing the grass, fire and water types respectively. Old Pokémon such as Pichachu, Psyduck and Dratini can also be seen in the brief trailer as well as the title’s legendary monsters. A part from what they look like – nothing is known.

What can be seen is that the red bird (presumably a fire type) will end up being the lead creature for Pokémon Y due to the shape of the creature matching the stylisation of the Y on the new word art. The Deer Pokémon has the same styling as the X next to the logo and would presumably end up featuring on the front of the Pokémon X box.

More excitingly for the game series is that the appearance has finally changed from the standard top-down view that has been in place since Pokémon Red and Blue on the original gameboy. Today we are presented with a 3D world, which shows off the new region that our heros will venture across.

Pokémon X & Pokémon Y will launch for the first time worldwide in October 2013 on the 3DS- meaning gamers in Europe and the Americas won’t have to wait months after the Japanese get their hands on the game.

Stay tuned for more information that will be released between now and October.
