Sea Of Thieves Season Eight Sets Sail Today
The latest season of Rare‘s Pirate-em-up, Sea of Thieves has launched today and brings with it a number of upgrades, challenges and goodies to unlock as you set about your adventure across the high seas. The team has released a lengthy video explaining what landlubbers can expect when they next boot up their game.
Coming as a free update to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass players, Sea of Thieves series eight introduces a new rivalry between the Guardians of Fortune and the Servants of the Flame as war breaks out across the seas. Captains will be able to decide which team to join and set off in a new PvP mode to rule the waves.
Throughout the season, you can choose to back either Faction and earn Allegiance points by taking out opposing ships. Doing so will grant you access to unique Curses from each Faction, that improve as you level up. Picking a side is as easy as flipping an hourglass, but once a side has been chosen, other players can seek your ship and challenge you at any point.
If you’re already an Emissary for Athena’s Fortune or The Reaper’s Bones, siding with the corresponding Faction to sink ships will not only get you all the usual rewards, but also boost your Emissary Grade, company reputation and Ledger position.
As with any season, 100 levels of rewards for all players are able to be unlocked by raising their Renown. By simply playing the game, rewards including cosmetics, gold and Ancient Coins will be unlocked and to go alongside the free update, a paid Plunder Pass is available to access premium items not yet available in game. The paid pass nets you a full Ravenwood Ship Collection (including Collector’s Figurehead and Sails), and also an evolving Ravenwood Costume that changes as you raise your Renown throughout the season.
Sea of Thieves is out now for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass.
