Microsoft have announced that certain Xbox One titles will benefit from a boost in FPS (Frames Per Second) on Series X|S, with no extra work needed from developers and no patch downloads for gamers.

According to Microsoft, the Xbox backwards compatibility team have developed some form of technical wizardry to use certain techniques for nearly doubling frame rates on games. The first wave of FPS boosted titles include:

  • Far Cry 4
  • New Super Lucky’s Tale
  • Sniper Elite 4
  • UFC 4
  • Watch Dogs 2

The apparent random nature of the above games was to give players and developers the best showcase of this feature. For example, New Super Lucky’s Tale now runs at 120 Frames Per Second and UFC4 gives a rock solid 60fps performance compared to the patchy experience on the previous console.

Games already benefit from faster loading times thanks to the speed of the inbuilt SSD as well as improved graphics due to the more powerful hardware. The hope with this new technology is that it can be rolled out to more games without the need for any extra development time.

As Microsoft start to focus more on their Game Pass offering you can bet that the games on their streaming service will be the ones prioritised for this new tech.
