T-RPG Sword of Convallaria Releases On Steam
Developers XD has launched Sword of Convallaria, a free-to-play Tactical-RPG across Steam, Android and iOS. According to XD, the game is a love letter to classic TRPGs and is set to deliver a game full of political intrigue and isometric combat encounters, wrapped up in a mammoth 120 hours of storytime.
From the looks of the trailer and key art (both embedded below), the game does look like a 16-bit inspired isometric T-RPG, albeit with modern stylings woven into the aesthetic. Players start the Sword of Convallaria by heading to the embattled nation of Iria. The land is under threat of destruction and it’s down to you to scour the land and embark on an epic hiring and training regiment to gather a roster of mercenaries to take on the invading forces.
Accompanying the staggering single-player offering, which boasts 10 endings to explore, comes an online mode that focuses on assembling your own guild. Here players can participate in weekly quests, recruit more mercenaries to the cause and train them until they are an ultimate fighting force that helps you save the world.
The grid-based encounters occur across various bespoke terrains throughout Iria, with each battlefield presenting different opportunities to take advantage of. Environments include cliffs, fire pits, and bodies of water, with each having a tactical advantage as players move through the different enemy squadrons.
One of the highlights of Sword of Convallaria is that the soundtrack has been composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, the composer of Final Fantasy Tactics and Valkyria Chronicles, and coupled with a cast that includes Kazuhiko Inoue, Aoi Yūki, and Takuya Eguchi, we do think the free-to-play title has a lot going for it.
To celebrate Sword of Convallaria’s release, XD are offering a Replete Dining Shelf at no extra charge. If you enter the code: SOCENLAUNCH in the game, you can claim this item until 14 September 2024.
Sword of Convallaria is available on PC (Steam) and mobile devices now.
