Odd Bug Studio’s follow up to Tails of Iron is coming out in 2025. Titled Tales of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter, the game throws players back into a world of rodents, frogs and bats as they battle for survival against a harsh winter. The original 2D adventure game was released in 2021 and praised for its tough combat and excellent visual style, both of which seem to be firmly in tact with the sequel.

Set in the aftermath of the first game, players pick up the story of Arlo, the son of the Warden of the North. Traveling across the harsh northern land, Arlo sets out to overcome an ancient evil from the frozen wastelands beyond. Tails of Iron 2 is set for a release across all platforms in February 2025.

Tails of Iron 2 will introduce all-new monsters as Arlo sets out on his path of revenge, hunting the gigantic beats of the North. The combat system has had a makeover with several new gameplay features including enhanced weapons, and four elemental effects (fire, ice, electricity, and poison). These additional powers will be needed with the new day and night cycle that has been implemented, as different enemies will be roaming the wilderness at different times of the day.

Our Rob reviewed both Tails of Iron and the rather substantial Bloody Whiskers DLC and came away rather impressed giving it a solid 8 out of 10. In his review, he highlights:

The tightly focused encounter design, meaty combat and enjoyable world-building and storytelling with adorable rodents who think they’re people, I didn’t find much not to like. The difficulty may be a turn-off for some, but the game keeps to the core soulslike tenet of playing fair and making sure that when you die (and you will die), you’ll know what you did wrong to bring it about.

Tails of Iron 2: Whiskers of Winter will be released in February 2025 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5/4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series / Xbox One consoles.
